PSP Update 2.0!

PSPUpdates has the scoop (watch out, Javascript pop ups on what is generally an okay site), and the link to the official upgrade file from Sony:

Update Instructions:

- Connect your PSP to your PC via USB cable.
- Goto the directory /PSP/GAME/ in your memory stick.
- Create a sub-directory named "UPDATE" (MUST be uppercase)
- Copy the downloaded PBP file into this directory.
- Rename it to "EBOOT.PBP" (MUST be uppercase too)
- Disconnect the PSP from the PC
- In PSP's XMB interface, goto "Game" -> "Memory Stick"
- Browse to the Update file and start it.
Note: You need to plug in the AC adapter.

I just loaded it up and I'm surfin' the web from my PSP baby! W00t!

The browser seems very okay from my few minutes of testing it, actually! The pages load relatively fast, the fonts are anti-aliased and look good, and the controls are reasonable - even URL entry (the secret is the shoulder buttons!). Holding down the square key allows for fast controlled scrolling with the arrow keys or analog stick, otherwise the analog stick moves a cursor like a mouse and the arrow keys jump from link to link. There are several view options (which took me a minute to find) which allow for "Normal", "Just-Fit" or "Smart-Fit" views, as well as the ability to change font size. Definitely not bad for what I paid for it! :-) Well worth the upgrade (this PSP was already at v1.51 so I couldn't run "homebrew" apps anyways).

In case you're wondering, here's the User Agent it sent to my server: "Mozilla/4.0 (PSP (PlayStation Portable); 2.00)"

This is very freakin' cool and totally lives up to my expectations. Rock!

-Russ

Update: This morning I found out the browser has multiple tabs! (Hold the square and left/right shoulder buttons to navigate.)
