Man, what are they teaching these MBA students today?
I'm going through emails from this month and responding... Here's an amusing exchange:
Hi Russell.
I’m an MBA student trying to find an "in" to Yahoo!. I saw your website and thought that perhaps you could give me some advice. Before you suggest the careers section of their website, know that I’ve already put my resume out there. I’m looking for a way to stand out from the crowd.
I would appreciate any advice you can offer.
Thanks,
S. [@ a purdue.edu email]

Do you have a blog? If not, start there.

You mean start a blog? How will that help?
Thanks,

If you want a way to stand out from the crowd, an intelligently written blog that is noticed by Yahoo! employees will help. Spamming them via email won't do much for you.

Yeah, a bit harsh I know. But come on... cold emailing me and asking for an "in" at Yahoo?! Incredible. And then he can't figure out how a blog would help him? I couldn't believe he responded that way, honestly - I thought he would send back a link or something, to which I would politely respond that I'd check it out, and maybe do just that. But wow...
Kids these days! (I just had to say it.)
