Perspective
A few thoughts on working and playing from James Duncan:
It was a good Monday. Instead of, say working or anything nearly so useful, I hiked up Yosemite Falls. It was a wonderful experience even though I pretty much got my ass kicked by the altitude and the 2700' vertical gain. Evidently I've got to get the iPod Diet back in full gear. I'll tell you one thing, in a year I won't remember what I do tomorrow for work, but I'll remember what I did today for fun.
I'll post some pictures soon. First I've got to get some more Advil. And some sleep.
Yeah! That's an amazing way to put tech stuff into perspective.
I've hicked up around Yosemite too around four years ago with my brother. It was really great. We're both pretty freakin' stupid and missed the signs that said something like "people die every year here by going beyond this point" and continued up to the base of one of the waterfalls. It was awesome. I still have the scar on my leg to remember the experience by ;-) (from where I slipped on one of the moss covered rocks on my way DOWN... you never think about being careful on the way down from the hike.).
Can't wait to take my son and wife out there too, actually... Yosemite is definitely amazing. (We'll stay on the path, however...)
