Arthur Has a Nokia
It's so nice when you can combine obsessions, no? My 17 year long fascination with the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and of course my (ahem) intense focus on mobile phones. So it was with pleasure when I was checking out the latest trailer that I noticed that Arthur is using either a Nokia 7610 or a 6670. He may be a jerk (a complete kneebiter, if you read the American versions) but Arthur's got good taste in phones.
Speaking of American vs. British versions, I saw a site the other day which had UK trailers, which instead of ending with music ripped off from Men in Black, uses a version of the music found in the original TV show, which is actually quite catchy (and strange sounding). Nice to know that the movie is keeping in line with the original's cross-Atlantic schizophrenia.
April 29th, baby! I'm more excited about this movie than any other in many, many years. I've still got my dog-eared, leather-bound copy of the first four books given to me on my 18th birthday, believe it or not. And, I have all five books with me at all times in text versions on my mobile phone. So you can imagine how excited I am.
Okay, time for an gratuitous and completely unrelated H2G2 quote:
The car shot forward straight into the circle of light, and suddenly Arthur had a fairly clear idea of what infinity looked like.
It wasn't infinity in fact. Infinity itself looks flat and uninteresting. Looking up into the night sky is looking into infinity-distance is incomprehensible and therefore meaningless. The chamber into which the aircar emerged was anything but infinite, it was just very very big, so that it gave the impression of infinity far better than infinity itself.
